Welcome to PLUM LYON, the teaching kitchen in the gastronomic capital of France. Located in the ancient silk-worker's district on the hill of the Croix Rousse, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Plum Lyon Teaching Kitchen is offering seasonal market classes, classic French cooking, children's workshops in English, and single subject ateliers that cover a chosen technique or theme in French cuisine and pastry. We accommodate 6-8 students per class. There is plenty of opportunity for hands-on learning in our classes.

A PLUM LYON WEEK:

 

   
 

Monday is design day. We hold our food photography ateliers, and invite colleagues and friends to brainstorm and create with us.  We test recipes, work with future collaborators, conduct research, edit copy for various projects, and handle administrative work related to the running of the PLUM LYON kitchen. 

 

   
           
 

Tuesdays, we tour the best markets and cook a full meal with you. First stop:  Lyon’s famous Les Halles Paul Bocuse, where we load up on a full cheese platter. Next, we hit Lyon's biggest outdoor market and fill up our market baskets.  We return to Plum Lyon to cook up a sumptuous lunch based on that day's finds. Add a selection of local wines and there you have it. A wonderful meal (with recipes!).

Wednesday, it's Very Basic French Cooking. This cooking series offered every other Wednesday afternoon, is designed to give young adults and beginner cooks the skills they need to cook for themselves and achieve a certain level of knowledge of French regional cooking and culinary traditions.

PLUM cooking Thursday Mornings: Come for companionship and morning lessons in classic French regional dishes and pastry technique.  We take the best of this week's fresh seasonal produce to create a stellar meal you can re-create at home.

Friday mornings, PLUM does pastry.  Learn how to execute your own croissants, brioche, feuilletage, charlottes, choux based desserts like eclairs, choquettes, the famous paris-brest, les religieuses, etc. and know the satisfaction of acquiring a skill you can keep forever.

If you're in Lyon for the weekend, why not visit the market and cook a full meal at PLUM on SATURDAY? This class begins with a walking visit to Lyon's largest outdoor market and includes preparation of a five course meal from apéro to dessert. Dishes are determined by what's available at the market that day. Cheese plate, local wines and full recipes included!
